Why would I need bone grafting?
If you are considering replacing a missing tooth with dental implants, you will need to have healthy gums and adequate jawbone to support the implant. When you visit Dentessential for your dental implant consultation, we will perform an x-ray to assess the jawbone density and health.
If the x-ray shows you have inadequate jawbone density, a bone graft may be the only way to have dental implant treatment.
What is bone grafting dental implant?
A bone graft is a surgical procedure which involves transplanting bone tissue either from your own body or synthetic material. Missing bone is replaced with the bone transplant to help rebuild unhealthy or diseased bone.
Your oral health will be one of the factors which determine whether we use bone tissue from your own body or synthetic material. And provided your body accepts the bone graft, it will be able to grow new, healthy bone.
What is the healing time?
Following a bone graft, the healing time is typically a couple of months. It will then be around four to six months after the bone graft that the dental implant can be placed.
Are you eligible for a bone graft?
The best way to determine your eligibility for this treatment is to book a consultation with Dentessential today. We will assess your oral health and take x-rays to determine if you require a bone graft prior to implant treatment.
